Schooner America is a 105-foot classic sailing vessel with roughly 3,600 square feet of sail area. This two-hour shared sunset departure starts at Chelsea Piers and heads south past the Financial District and One World Trade Center toward Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. The open deck puts the shape of the rigging and the changing light at the center of the experience.

The current matching Viator listing includes one complimentary beverage and the two-hour cruise. It does not include gratuity, a plated meal, unlimited bar service or a promised live-jazz performance. Viator also mentions optional jazz-themed departures elsewhere on the site; those should not be read as part of this standard 6288P24 ticket.

This is not the same boat as the smaller Schooner Adirondack, although both leave from Classic Harbor Line at Chelsea Piers Pier 62. At sea, the captain selects a route and use of sails based on safe wind, tide and harbor traffic. The best Liberty photo angle and sunset cannot be guaranteed on any individual departure.

   Arrive at Classic Harbor Line, Chelsea Piers

   Locate the waterfront Pier 62 ticket booth near West 22nd Street. Several Classic Harbor Line tours depart here, so confirm the Schooner America name.

   Board and meet the sailing crew

   Select a suitable deck spot and follow crew instructions around the rigging and lines. One complimentary beverage is offered with the matching ticket.

3. 03

   Head into New York Harbor

   The schooner travels past the Financial District, with sightlines toward Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. Wind and traffic affect the precise track and whether the sails remain set.

4. 04

   Return to Pier 62 after about two hours

   Enjoy evening skyline views on the way back. Allow time to disembark and travel onward after dark.
